Gridded gameboards are great for letter tile word games. SCRABBLE and WORDS WITH FRIENDS utilize gridded gameboards. So does BOGGLE, sort of, since the letter
cubes fall into designated "grid sections" and players identify words from adjacent
letters. UPWORDS utilizes a gridded gameboard as well. But the difference with
all the other games is that once a letter is in place on a gameboard, it's stuck
there the whole game, LIKE IN CONCRETE so CAT can't be changed to LATER,
and LATER can't be changed to METER because you can't stack new Letter
Tiles on top of tiles already on the gameboard. Lots of folks are playing WORDLE
these days. That's a fun unscramble word game, but you don't get to create
words or stack anything. Upwords stacks up well against any other word game.

STACKING - that's the magic of UPWORDS. The higher tiles get stacked, the higher their point value. POINT VALUE is not printed on any tile because the point value depends upon the HEIGHT of the Tile Stack beneath the top Tile on that stack (up to 5 high).

How Does Upwords Stack Up To
Other Word Games?
What's the difference between CLASSIC Upwords & HURRY Upwords?
CLASSIC UPWORDS began as an 8x8 gameboard with 64 Letter Tiles. It soon grew into a 10x10 gameboard with 100 Letter Tiles. Either FACE TO FACE (up to 4 players!) - with a plastic gameboard, plastic tiles and letter racks, or ONLINE - via our CLASSIC UPWORDS (2-player) app, players TAKE TURNS competing on the SAME GAMEBOARD, creating new words or modifying existing words by stacking new tiles over already placed tiles. The 100 Letter Tiles are a random mix of letters pretty much based upon English-language frequency of usage. With Classic UPWORDS, once a tile is played, that exact letter tile will not show up again, so chance-of-tile distribution can be your friend or your enemy, and a player MIGHT find themselves working with a tougher letter mix than their opponent at any given time during the game. That's not the case with HURRY UPWORDS.
HURRY UPWORDS is a 7x7 digital gameboard and both players begin with the EXACT SAME Letter Tiles displayed on their Rack. The subsequent Tiles that will appear on either player's Rack will appear in the EXACT SAME RANDOM ORDER as their opponent!!
Each Player plays on their own board - so you are the master of your own destiny. Nothing your opponent will do can impact your performance. Opponents only meet at the "Score Board", once both have played their independent session. Highest Score wins.

Here's a Tip from the Creator of Upwords

vecteezy
Your eyes, fingers and brain quickly and throughout the game want to consider the entire gameboard and what's on your Letter Rack. THINK AHEAD to opportunities you may want to play and set up your next move(s) since there's no opponent to interfere with your next move strategy.
It's best to stick with shorter words as long as you can - don't fall into CLASSIC UPWORDS strategy and think extending a word into a longer word will make your opponent's next move more difficult. You'll only be making YOUR next move more difficult).
